Lets get things rolling. So I am going to start us off with a pretty basic topic to begin with. How did you get into the hobby and who was your first?
For me.. I started back in 2006. That was a rather traumatic year for me, lost my sis and my dog all in the same year. The loss I guess spurred me into buying. Id known about BJDs for a couple years, but of course I was turned off by the price. XD In august of 06 though I bit the bullet and bought my first doll, one I had been eyeing for a little while. My dollmore kid aidan boy, Kiyori was my first doll. I didn't have to wait long for him either.. Dollmore is exceptionally fast when shipping. Took three weeks, two weeks to make, and a week in shipping. Kiyori didn't start out as Kiyori though, I had actually wanted him to be named Shiro. The fussy thing just wouldn't take to the name. >.< So he ended up being Kiyori.. I still remember that excitement from when I first got him too! I was actually horrified Id break him. Then that amazement that he could stand unsupported. That still amazes me to be honest. =3
Then it went all down hill from there.. Second doll was ordered shortly after. in novemeber, and seven years later, I have 14 dolls.

Back in 2007, I had been on Encyclopedia Dramatica (yes, really) when I came across their article on "Dollfies". I was intrigued and joined DoA to see what all the fuss was about - I thought the dolls were gorgeous. I successfully convinced my mom to let me use my own money to get a used Mythdoll Leroi off the DoA Marketplace (because naturally the doll I fell in love with was no longer available from the manufacturer!) and the rest was history.
My crew of three (recently expanded to four) has accompanied me to New York City, Peru, and multiple trips to and from college. My mom loves them and sews for them, and I quietly pine after the twenty or so dolls that I want and cannot have due to cost. Maybe when I get a real job, someday. /sigh
So really I had a very steady collection from about November 2008 until November 2012!

All right welp I have 13 dolls and 1 floating head. My very first dollie was DZ X his name is Dominick (most people call him Nicky). This was back in 2009 I have now been a member of the doll community for almost 5yrs now and ended up with my first 10 or dolls in one year. Now I usually get one or two during the year and spend money on clothing. I am also on DOA. Joined because I was introduced to them by an ex-friend actually. I have also collected American girl dolls.

I've been in the hobby only 2 years now and have stabilized at 9/10 dolls. I write it like that because I have one doll incoming.
Anyway, I didn't know about BJDs until I was at college in the dorms. My downstairs neighbor collected them and I found them beautiful. Soon I bought my own, a 60cm obitsu Gretel, but I only kept her about 1.5 years when I realized that I simply prefer resin. Nothing against vinyl or abs dolls, I just like the weight of the resins. It all went downhill when I got Zephyra, my first resin and I learned to do my own face ups. Now all of my dolls (with face ups) have my face ups on them. I had two with defaults, but one I traded and the other I'm listing for sale. Either way, I love painting dolls and I actually started taking commissions as a face up artist so I would stop buying dolls to paint!
I (currently) don't want any more dolls luckily, so I feel good about my collection. :3

oh wow, so apparently Foxxian, we're are like twins in this aspect.
I made my first purchase in 2006 of both my baby girl, Jme, a Dream of Doll DoC Petsha, and Jasper, my Dream of doll DoC homme Ivan. The whole reason I got them, was because my sister and our cat passed away and it kind of..spurred me into doing it because she had also liked the petsha, though would never get one herself personally. I couldnt afford to get more, even though working and such as my own health took a hit, but I've always loved making them clothes, changing off their wigs and making them costumes. I hope to one day get another doll, but I havent decided which one I would like as Petsha was my love, and I have her so im okay now XD
that's about it for me :# I've got my meesly little 2, but I love them!

I found BJDs on Ebay. I was looking at MA dolls, thinking to pick one up cheap if I could..and I saw this fabulously beautiful doll...(Soom Gena). I was hooked that fast. I bought my first 2 within a few weeks. And I've had many since.
I have 21 at home right now with 1 on order.

I was collecting Hittys when my husband told me about ABJDs after meeting someone carrying a doll at a local con. I did a Google search and was fascinated by the posing ability. I had my first ABJD two months later. So, they are all his fault!

I found my way into this soul eating hobby when I first researched 'OOAK' dolls; it started with Obitsus and customizing them; then I forced myself to part with a lump of cash and purchase my first 1/3 BJD; a RS Gang. I remember feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas when I was expecting him. Now, I'm up to 13(?) in the span of three years. I ordered some from Junky Spot, including my first, some second hand on Facebook BJD pages and Ebay. I went through the usual trial and error experiences with my dolls in the beginning, but I've learned alot since I first began; I've enjoyed meeting others in this hobby, most of all. The diversity in BJD lovers amazes me; from the various age of collectors to the styles of their dolls.

I blame Leigh aka Hitsura. If she hadn't drawn such a fabulous web comic and then bought DOLLS of her characters and posted photostories! But as such I had to pay off some stuff and then bought Nicco... damned little gateway drug that he is.. 24 dolls (including my Wong, Freyr and Pullip) later....

I'm getting to the point where I am ashamed to admit to how many dolls I have. I've been in the hobby for just 2 and half years. Granted some of my dolls are less expensive, one was a gift from a friend and two where company gifts but I'm up to 21 dolls. ^_^ I think after the 2 more I have planed I better stop before my husband kills me. He is been great about it so far

You know when I started collecting I was actually introduced to them by an ex-friend. She pulled one of her dolls out and sat it on my lap and I was hooked. I couldn't wait to get my own...I got that in Sept. 2009. But the thing is I had seen them before I just didn't know I had seen them. Sooo now I take great joy in helping others figure out that they love this hobby. While I am a tad sad that I am no longer friends with those that brought me into the hobby, I found that my characters and dolls like always have been there for me.

Early 2006, several friends and acquaintances of mine from the anime cel collecting community started spending altogether too much time on Den of Angels, and in early summer my former best friend said "want to do this with me?" She got her first doll in late July or early August of that year, and I got mine -- a DZ Megi, white-skinned (Yuki is still with me and, like Linacat, I remember distinctly the overwhelming feeling of awe that he inspired -- in mid-August or so. He was followed almost immediately by Kenshin, an Elfdoll Red, who is the One Who Shall Never Leave. We won't talk exact numbers of how many dolls I own, but I have have a terrible habit of picking up orphans and so on. It's over 100 now, but many, many of them are tinies, which don't carry the same weight, right? I have to say that part of that huge number is a direct response to two years' illness and -- unconnected except by an uncanny confluence of timing -- my former best friend's decision to become "former." Both very sad things, and I dealt with them by going more than a bit overboard.

It's over 100 now, but many, many of them are tinies, which don't carry the same weight, right? Isn't the ratio 2-4 tinies = 1 SD? Unless it is 70 cm or more-then you get 6 tinies to equal 1.
