*I apologize for my camera. The battery was failing and so the quality of the shots are hit and miss.*
Spring has arrived and it's time, Hajime feels for a trip to The Spirit World. He needs to contact his ancestors if possible and learn more about the spirit in his head. Bridges, of course, are the easiest portals in the modern world and he has found one he thinks will be perfect
Will this really work, Haj?
~
Yes, I believe so, it goes over water.
~
But it's just a bridge! I can see the other side of the river!
~
Haji chuckle
For now, Khefri, it IS just a bridge.
~
There's a momentary pause as each man thinks his own thoughts
~
So what d'you need us to do?
~
Not much really. Just wait here, I'll use you to find my way back. .. like following the smell of fresh baked bread.
~
Tamas raises an eyebrow
Smell huh?
~
Hajime grins
Hot metal and cinamony dragon musk
~
Tamas grins in return
Yeh've ben talkin ta Nicky..
~
Khefri frowns, sometimes Hajime's friendship with Tamas is a little more intimate than Khefri feels comfortable with and he gets insecure wondering how he can ever compete with the huge smith.
~
Without speaking a word, Hajime pulls the small elf into a hug.
~
Don't worry, little one, I'll be all right and back before you know it.
~
Khefri pulls out of Haji's grasp and stand stiffly
I know that!
~
His chin rises proudly
I am NOT worried.
~
Haji trades a sideways glance with Tamas
Of course you're not.
~
Taking a deep breath, because inspite of his brave words to Tamas and especially to Khefri, he really is a little bit afraid, he steps toward the bridge murmuring the spell of transport NaKa taught him.
~
Just before stepping under the bridge he pauses and looks over his shoulder.
~
Khefri, I do love you
~
Khefri flushes in embarrassment
What?! Now?! Concentrate on what you're doing.and just GO already!
~
Hajime turns his head and steps forward under the bridge, In that moment there is a loud crack as of thunder
~
A thin trickle of water pours over the edge of the bridge
~
Before it looks as if half the river hits the brigde railing
~
When it clears Hajime is gone and the sun is shining through as before
~
Holy Mother Mary
Tamas whispers wiping water and mud from his cheek
~
Khefri's eyes are huge and round
Haji?
~
He looks at Tamas
~
He's gone, he's really gone!
~
Yeh
Tamas stares at the bridge in shock
~
Well
He looks down at the small elf beside him
~
Ah guess we make oursel' comfortable and wait. He said he wouldn't be long and Ah've ne'er known him tah lie
Tamas sits on one of the step like stones, leaning back and thinking if this weren't in the middle of the city, he would transform and soak up the sun through dragonhide.
~
Khefri hops up onto the rock
~
But he's too impatient to sit still and jumps down to prowl in the trees at the water's edge.
~
At least watching the water instead of the unmoving stones helps counter the feeling that time has totally stopped.
~
Tamas smiles at the young elf indulgently, he knows what it's like to wait for your lover to return
~
An hour passes
~
and another one..
~
Khefri struggles to remain calm as a third hour passes
~
A soft sound as of a footfall on sand sounds off to his left and he looks up expecting Tamas
~
A disheveled and tired looking Hajime is standing under the bridge
I am back, Khefri
~
Hajime!
~
He runs to the tall shaman and wraps his arms around the tired looking man
Oh little one, Khefri, I am so glad to see you and feel you again!
~
Tamas wakes from his nap, actually his dragon senses heard Hajime even before Khefri but he chose to continue to "be asleep" and allow them a moment together.
~
Hajime, you're dry. But that wave must have soaked you!
~
I've been away for three weeks, Khefri.
Khefri gasps in surprise
~
Didja find what yeh were looking fer?
~
For the most part yes.
~
I'm still uncertain on my father's ancestors but ...
He trails off and Tamas wisely doesn't press for more answers
~
Good
Welcome Home, Long legs
~
He hugs Khefri again
Thank you, it's good to be back
