We find four friends lazing on the porch of the local art museum on a quiet Sunday afternoon I wanted to talk with you, Tamas and Nick, first after Khefri~ *Khefri flushes slightly* ~ I don't really mind if you discuss it with Tias or any of the others living here, just, you know..His voice tapers off ~ Tamas nods ~ He looks sideways and down to Nick There's something about the blond man's demeanor and gentle nature that makes him a natural confidant. ~ As it ever was, so long ago Tamas thinks remembering his beloved Nicco ~ Hajime takes a deep breath My journey to Rarohenga, where spirits dwell, was fairly fruitful. I found out rather a lot about my mother.~ And your father?~ Ah well that's a bit problematic~ Problematic? Why?~ Well, you see, to all intents and purposes, he hasn't checked in there yet.~ What?!~ In other words, he isn't dead yet.~ There's a flurry of voices as several people try to talk at once. ~ Khefri remains quiet, since he has already heard it. ~ I spoke to NaKa on the phone and he most adamantly insist that both of my parents were dead and their souls already gone by the time he arrived at the house. He is quite shocked and upset as you can imagine.~ Are you trying to tell us that your father is a...a..a vampire or a zombie?~ Not exactly.~ We can rule out vampire because the spirit who attacked them was not one. And as for zombie...~ not all zombies look like something George Romero or Max Brooks would recognize. ~ Hajime pauses thoughtfully But no, I do not think he is a zombie~ Then what?~ There are some shamanic practioners who can simulate death for varying amounts of time.~ Actually, I can do it as well, but only for a few minutes.~ The trick is in convincing your brain that you died, but not letting it start to shut your system down.~ It takes a great deal of power and strength of will to hold entropy at bay.~ And you think this is what your Da did?~

*softly* Yes~ However, I suspect he did it reflexively not consciously.~ Wait a minute! You just said it takes a lot of concentration to do this trick.~ Yes I did~ Confusing, isn't it?~ You're hiding something, Long legs.~ No, not really~ But seriously, everyone and I DO mean everyone, I've talked to who knew my parents, talks at great length about how young, naive and innocent they both were. ~ NaNa says she'd have never let two children like them out of the house alone, much less out of the country~ Khefri frowns thoughtfully, remembering how young and scared he felt when he left home. ~ So either my father deserves the granddaddy of all Oscars for his acting or smething awoke in him in that moment...~ like it did in me..~ Tamas points at Hajime's head ~ Have you asked him?~ Wahrua?~ It has a name now?~ Hajime grins It means spirit in the island language~ Mmmm, ah ri'~ And?Tamas arches an eyebrow in inquiry ~ He is cryptic as ever, by which I surmise means he knows nothing but doesn't want to flat out admit to it.~ Khefri's lips twitch as he holds back a laugh ~ Anyway, since space is limited on the island, burials are done at sea. Bodies are shrounded, weighed down with rocks and put on a bier, then towed out to sea.~ The bier breaks up in a day or two and the body sinks to the ocean floor~ Khefri makes a small squeaking noise. At home, this method of burial would surely result in wandering spirits ~ Haji smiles reassuringly and squeezes the young elf's arm. ~ And you think your Da didn't sink?~ Yes, but I am at a loss because he didn't return to the island.~ Tis a puzzle indeed~ Might he be a dragon, Tamas? Then he could have flown away.~ Mmm, might be but without someone to teach him to transform beforehand he'd drown.Transforming ain't easy at first and it's painful.~ This is why I said it was problematic. NaKa swears his spirit had left the body, but it isn't in Rarohenga nor is it here that I can tell.~ Somewhere else perhaps?~

Perhaps, but that's another problem because most of those "other" places are really unpleasant.~ And I mean REALLY unpleasant~ There's another lull in the conversation as each man ponders what he has heard ~ Well, I will talk to Johann and Da, if I can find him. They're older than me and perhaps know something or someone I don't. ~ Perhaps some dragon kin or other creature that can transform without training.~ Didn't you tell me that Basilisks change instinctively?~ Hai~ Had ta train the little brat NOT to transform.~ But change for a basilisk usually manifests itself the first time they throw a tantrum. I have a hard time imagining, based on what I know of basilisk temperments, that one managed to stay calm for 20 plus years and then didn't go berserk when it's mate was threatened and killed~ *chuckles* Good point, a basilisk is far to high strung, hmm?~ You, truly, have no idea~ Mmm, yes. ~ And that my friends, is literally, all I know about my father. My mother on the other hand...~ He pauses thoughtfully ~ I think my mother was a lot stronger willed than NaNa gives her credit for, she was just barely 17 and far from home and very much out of her depth.~ My mother's family, on both sides, is solid Irish, not mixed Celt/English or Celt/Danish. It can be traced, if you know where to look, And you knew where to look?~ Not at first, but I learned~ A shadow flickers across his face ~ Her family is traceable, as I said, in an unbroken line back to the original Indo-European Celts that arrived in Ireland some 10,000 years ago. An unbroken line of Druids, priestesses and warriors..Holy mother of Heaven~ Ohhhhhhh....~ Yes, there can't be more than 10 families in the whole of Ireland that can claim that~ IF that many, outside of the Dragon and Fey clans that isYes~ That explains why yer kin never came to claim yeh~ Yes, mother, no doubt, eloped. Maybe it was because of the Christianity or perhaps it was my father~ You didn't ask?~ Mmmm, I couldn't actually find her, Well not in the time I allotted myself in RarohengaHe looks at Khefri I did not wish to be gone too long~ Tamas studies the young elf and the even younger human and nods I begin to understand why you are so ungodly powerful, with that much Druidic blood flowing in your veins..~ ~ Hajime stares out at the grounds but does not answer. ~

No kidding! ... for a brief moment I had this bizarre notion that we would find out that Tamas is actually his father. . That would indeed be problematic! But a Druid! This is awesome.

Bakaay: Problematic and incestuous as well... No, no, all of Tam's children are accounted for, with the possible exception of Shane, who is somewhere just not where Tam knows... yeah it's complicated. Yeah, Druidic Earth magic melded with? ??

Wow, answers that bring more questions. Yeah I know... my brain can't just say "Oh she was a housewife." and walk away.
